Explanated: Earth Day 2021's meaning
The Earth Day, annual festival to promote environmental conservation is observed around the world today (22 April). The 51st anniversary of the annual festivities will be celebrated in 2021. The theme this year is "Restore Our Earth" for Earth Day.
In 2009, the UN declared the 'International Mother Earth Day' as April 22.

In a tweet, UN Secretary General António Guterres said "the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is an opportunity for the world to follow a more safe, renewable and prosperous course."

Earth Day's meaning
Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, when 20 million people took to the streets to oppose decline. The Santa Barbara oil waste in 1969 and other problems such as smog and poisoned rivers caused the event.
Earth Day played an important part in environmental advocacy over the next half century.
The Earth Day 2016 marked Paris Agreement, which brought together over 200 countries to reach a collective objective for reducing global greenhouse emissions.
Earth Day seeks to "construct the greatest environmental campaign on earth to promote profound human and planetary transformation," according to earthday.org.
